folk flies

What are folk flies? 
Well they are a new pet project of mine. It started recently when I left my fly box at home and instead scavenged some fly tying materials from the landscape around my fishing destination. I was able to knock up some passable sakasa kebari patterns from seagull feathers and sheep's wool and horse hair dubbing. Here are my early examples and it's got me to thinking how I might create some more folk flies from the landscape around home when I return. Watch this space..
